Frau Berkmüller
FRAU BERKMÜLLER is the result of an encounter between two different generations. On the one hand there is an old lonely woman and on the other hand there is a young film-maker who tries to understand and capture the old woman's world with his camera. A five minute interaction about loneliness and ageing.
Family
With monthly passport photos taken during the last 30 years FAMILY portraits four people: a relationship goes to pieces, a new one is made and a family gets started.
Hellville
Hellville seems to have found its bizarre balance through a traffic system exclusively made of pedal vehicles...Until the day the roaring engine of a motorbike resonates through it streets.
Otto Normalverbraucher
Every country knows it’s mediocre citizen. In the Netherlands you have Jan Modaal, in Sweden Medel-Svenson, in Poland Jan Kowalski and in Germany Otto Normalverbraucher. In market research Otto Normalverbraucher represents the average consumer. He is a fictional person possessing the medium needs of a people.
In this autobiographical portrait we follow a Polish immigrant. From youth he has been searching for the Average Joe element. A question of identity. He wonders: When are you normal in the Dutch society?
Blödes Orchester
Arranged like a symphony orchestra, approximately 200 antique vacuums, mixers and washing machines are transformed into musical instruments. They form an ensemble that the conductor, harpsichordist and composer Michael Petermann, alias weiserrausch.de, has now completed after eight years of preparation: The Stupid Orchestra.
Stuck in a Groove
What do Madonna, Massive Attack and Angela Merkel have in common? "Friedrich Nietzsche" might be Clemens Kogler's answer to this question. With the aid of a tool called Phonovideo, which consists of a turntable, video mixers and pressed vinyl, he animates images of the individuals named above in realtime, while at the same time a male narrator's voice goes through the effects of the Nietzschean idea of eternal return on the soundtrack. (Claudia Slanar)
How to Civilize a Waterfall
In this video artist Hanna Ljungh performs an authoritative confrontation with nature, an indifferent and independent force. Inspired by the dramatic expressiveness of hard rock music, Ljungh challenges the waterfall and tries to persuade it to turn into a hydroelectric power plant. The work reveals humanity's comical and paradoxical relationship with nature. The encounter becomes an emotional and almost spiritual experience - an encounter with ones self. As we cannot communicate with it, nature, Ljungh explains, easily becomes a foreign and estranged other – with an ever-changing identity impossible to grasp.
13. Deutsche Hirschrufer Meisterschaft
The German Dear Calling community is small and a male domain. In 2011, for the first time there is a woman amongst the nine competitors of the German Deer Calling Championship. They battle each other in three categories: “the young deer”, “two deers in a calling battle” and “old deeer with two hinds”.
What's up?
The video work combines distressed and contented sounds of a baby with images of adult men and women acting out the sounds and the feelings that they carry. The work deals, in a humorous way, with our innate need to feel accepted, loved and happy.
Ice Carosello
A short story about three men, a couple of chain saws, one snow mobile, some bystanders, lots of ice and much more fun ...
Collide-o-Scope
Using four super-8 cameras a man in a white room replicates himself. He and his clones have time until the cartridges in the cameras run out before they disappear.
Log Jam: Rain
"When the rain begins to fall" not only the furs float away but also the drummer. The band can no longer practice and, to make matters worse, the ranger appears.
Log Jam: Log
A sequence of unfortunate coincidences disrupts the band consisting of rabbit, bear and wolf in the forest. Fortunately, the ranger is not the sharpest knife in the drawer.
Log Jam: Switch
Even despite a bad cold, the motto "cobbler, stick to your last" still applies for rabbit, bear and wolf. This way, the ranger will not notice anything.
